The Doggie Visual is to assist you with finding the correct area to measure when ordering your collar.  Below is the associated letters and explanation for what each represents, please (as always) contact me if you have any questions.

A: This is the location where you would measure for a Side Release Buckle Collar, Tag collars, Double Bar Buckle collars, and Feline collars.  Grab a soft tape measure or something that you can circle around and 'hug' the curves of the dogs neck properly, find the area on the neck where you want the collar to rest and allow for about two fingers to fit comfortably between the tape and your dogs neck.  If you find that your measurements are straddling two sizes, you have two choices: 1) go with the next size up or 2) contact me for a custom size.  I understand that some owner do not want a lot of access collar but a little for room to grow would be better.
If this is a gift for a friend, please send me an email or call during office hours for assistance.

B & C:  These area measurements will be required for a proper fit martingale.  As with the non-martingale collars, grab a soft tape measure or something that you can circle around and 'hug' the curves of the dogs neck properly.  Locate the area on the neck where you want the collar to rest when not attached to a leash...measure area 1.  Find the area directly behind the ears, this should be the narrowest part of the neck...measure area 2, and finally locate the area around the widest part of the head...referred to as the 'crown' (you know where the cute little hump is atop the head...measure area 3Select a martingale size that will accommodate the smallest neck/head measurement.  So, if the smallest size is a 16", then select a Small Martingale collar.  You want to be sure that the collar can be made small enough to stop the dog from backing out of the collar but large enough to adjust to a bigger size if needed.

If ordering a French Martingale, use the measurement from area B to ensure that the "collar" portion will be small enough to stop a "back out".

If you are measuring for a custom collar (Limited Edition or commissioned piece), you will need measurement from C (the largest head measurement) and B (the narrowest measurement).  Here is what those measurement will show: 1) measurement B will be the measurement for the part of the collar that locks behind the ears preventing back out, 2) C will be the size that allows the entire collar to slip over the largest part of the head and the ears, and finally the number difference between B & C will be the tiny loop size (this is where the leash is attached).  So, if C is 15 and B is 12, then the difference is 3 inches.  The final collar will have a 3 inch tiny loop and the larger loop will be 12 inches to include any length that comes from the hardware.  If  you want to add a little extra length to the collar so that it fits further down on the neck, add an inch to C so that the little loop will give you more room and NOT the part of the collar that is designed to stop the back out.
